Music Monday - May 2, 2016

Happy Monday, Hipsters! This week's Music Monday playlist, for the most part, was a return to many songs and/or artists that I'd unintentionally taken a break from for a bit. Sometimes I get into one of those moods where everything I've been listening to for the last few weeks or months just isn't speaking to me like it had been, so I have to switch things up a bit. I always come back around full circle, though, and become obsessed with my old favorites again. It's the circle of life.

With that being said, there are also a few new (to me) songs and artists on this week's playlist that may become old favorites of mine. Only time will tell, but I do hope you enjoy this week's selections!
  1. Whale - Yellow Ostrich | Fun fact, I am absolutely terrified of whales as I explained in my "Hello, It's Me" post, but somehow TWO songs featuring whales made it onto this week's playlist. Accidental immersion therapy?
  2. Hightimes - The Big Pink | I think the title gives you an indication of the song's theme.
  3. Trying to Be Cool - Phoenix | The stripped down version of this song is amazing & better than the original in my opinion - and available on Spotify - so check it out if you can!
  4. Queen of Peace - Florence + the Machine | An old favorite that I'm glad I came back to. I've had to do a bit of driving recently, and this has been my go-to song. It's dramatic, fun, and a great option if you want to dance in your car at a stop light and get judged by the general population.
  5. There Will Be Time - Mumford & Sons and Baaba Maal | M&S released this song last week. It's a return to their acoustic roots, which I missed even though the electric album was a cool switch-up, and Baaba Maal is just awesome on this track.
  6. Go! - M83 ft. Mai Lan | This song reminds me of a song that would play in a shop at the mall (Charlotte Russe particularly comes to mind here), but I like it a lot.
  7. Hold My End Up - Delta Spirit | When the "Into the Wide" album was released, I got really into it, especially this song. Delta Spirit popped up on a playlist I was listening to last week, and we were beautifully reunited.
  8. Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales - Car Seat Headrest | Another whale song - seriously, what's the deal?
  9. Your Rocky Spine - Great Lake Swimmers | Pay attention to these lyrics, because they'll take you on a metaphorical outdoor adventure.
  10. The Perfect Parts - Shakey Graves | Yes, Shakey was on last week's playlist, but this guy is killing it. His voice has the perfect amount of gravel to it, and those guitar riffs are hypnotic. I'm completely digging his sound and can't stop listening to this song.
