Music Monday - April 18, 2016

At my day job, and during my many at-home tasks I've been undertaking lately, I have constantly had music on in the background. Music helps me focus when I need to concentrate, like when I'm at work and need to roll out a project, or it can take me to another time and place, like when I'm pulling weeds or folding laundry and don't necessarily want to be doing those things.

Fortunately for me, all of this time spent with music on has introduced me to new playlists, artists, and songs to enjoy. Because I've been listening to so much music, it gave me the idea to share my top ten favorite songs of the week, each week. With that thought, Music Monday was born! Below is the first edition of this weekly post, with songs in no particular order:
  1. Wide Eyes - Local Natives
  2. Breezeblocks - Alt-J
  3. Excuses - The Morning Benders
  4. 1957 - Milo Greene
  5. Shake - The Head and the Heart
  6. Cleopatra - The Lumineers
  7. When I Grow Up - First Aid Kit
  8. Mykonos - Fleet Foxes
  9. Rill Rill - Sleigh Bells
  10. Little Dust - Horse Thief
For the most part, these songs came from the Spotify playlists that I had on repeat for the last week - Essential Indie, Stomp and Holler, and Ultimate Indie. Those playlists were great resources, and I hope to find others like them in the future. Throughout the week, I either needed to have something relaxing on in the background (songs like "Mykonos" and "When I Grow Up" served that purpose) or an energy boost (enter "Shake" and "Rill Rill"), and these songs fit the bill for those needs. What are you all listening to, Hipsters? Comment below.
